Tajikistan/Insurgency: Court jails 10 suspected Islamist militants
Media reported that Tajikistan has jailed 10 members of a banned insurgent group in Khujand, the largest city in the north of Tajikistan, on Wednesday on charges of inciting anti-government activities.
The Supreme Court's Press Service stated that the accused were jailed from three to 15 years and that all of those sentenced, including a 70-year-old man, belonged to the Hizb ut-Tahrir (Party of Liberation) group.
It is worth mentioning that according to Supreme Court reports, this year alone 115 people have been jailed on charges of belonging to banned groups.
However, Hizb ut-Tahrir argues it uses only peaceful methods to achieve its goal of establishing a worldwide caliphate - a theocratic Muslim state.
